buying film

hi,
i just recently purchased a super8 camera and am ready to start shooting!!!!
i have been trying to find out where i can get film to use. looking through the internet the only place i saw was from kodak, are there any other better places?maybe even cheaper? also, how much actual shooting time does say a 50ft roll of film give me? thanks in advance.

a 50' cartridge will give you about 3mins @18fps and 2.5 mins @24fps. in the past, i've ordered film from adorama.com because they sell single rolls at bulk (qty 10) rates. but i've been investigating other options; namely, purchasing direct from kodak. i do this to directly show my support for the super8mm format. i figure it'll drive the message more immediate to kodak that there is a verifiable demand for super8mm.

Go to the source Kodak.

1. They are the cheapest.

2. Even cheaper if you are a student.

3. They are not Super8Sound!

yikes 3 minutes! is that the standard length you can purchase film at,50'? it seems pretty expensive, i believe the film itself was 12-13 dollars. i guess beacuse its become fairly scarce that might have something to do with it.

Kodak has Kodachrome listed at $10.57 and Adorama is $11.19. I am not sure what Kodak charges for shipping as that can make or break the price. I always use Adorama as it comes in the mail in 2 days. Thing with Adorama is you have to buy at least 5 rolls to "water down" their fixed minimum shipping of $7.

Anyone who has used Kodak online please reply with what they have charged for shipping as I may try them some time.

Another answer is that when you shoot Super-8 film you are creating an Organic, Three-Dimensional Work of Art...18 or 24 individually wrapped frames every second.

These pre-developed film frames are actually ticketed and flown to a special "processing" school where they are developed and then taught that they are superior to video.

You shoot video when you need to document people blathering on about anything....

...Shoot film when the images speak for themselves.

....when shooting film, sound is the bonus...in video, it's virtually EVERYTHING.

I just made a purchase fo kodak, shipping for 10 rolls was 10.50.I did not notice any price breaks.

I am new to this and very exited to get me and my family into this creative film making process. Thanks for having this great forum and all those who put together the informative web sites.You guys are really helping to super 8 grow not just stay alive.
